At our next stop, our taste buds were spoiled. We visited Enric at Vila i Corona, who is the owner of the Vila Corona winery, and where he also grew up. No one was better placed than him to talk passionately about the region and wine. Fortunately, he spoke a little bit of English and fluent French, so we could effortlessly understand his stories.
His vineyards are located at the foot of the Nerets mountain, an area where 65 million years ago the last dinosaurs of Europe lived in a kind of delta that flowed into the Tethys Sea, the precursor to today's Mediterranean Sea. Today, the vineyard is cultivated on land formed by geological events millions of years ago: tectonic fractures, large continental collisions, and thousands of meters of stone, gypsum, clay, and other elements that created the so-called Tremp formation.
It is on this unique, irreplaceable red earth that Enric's family has been planting vineyards since 1749. Vila Corona was the first winery in Pallars to be part of the DO Costers del Segre.
We greatly enjoyed our visit to the winery where Enric and his wife spoke with pure passion. And the wine was also extremely delicious.
