Go hiking and visit the long neck tribe
Take in the breathtaking views while hiking the highest mountain in Thailand and immerse yourself in the unique culture of the long neck tribe for a truly unforgettable adventure.

Kew Mae Pan Nature trail
Nestled within Chiang Mai's Doi Inthanon National Park, the Kew Mae Pan Nature Trail spans approximately 2.5 kilometers and typically takes 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. It offers an easy hike through lush surroundings, but visitors are required to hire a local guide to support the community, usually costing around 6 euros. Note that the trail is closed during the rainy season. We visited in February when the weather was dry and cool, making it an ideal time for hiking. Despite being a busy season in Thailand, the motorcycle loop around this area was less crowded. So you don't need to arrive early to hire a guide, but it's advisable to avoid weekends.

Huay Pu Keng village: Kayan long neck tribe
Prepare for your longest drive yet: a 192-kilometer stretch that will take approximately 4 hours. By the way, I made a small change to the traditional Mae Hong Son loop by skipping Mae Sariang. While some may find it worth visiting, I found that the route from Doi Inthanon to the Long Neck Tribe was surprisingly free of traffic, making the journey more enjoyable. If you're on time, consider visiting the Huay Pu Keng village, which remains open until 7 pm. Upon arrival, you can cross the water, pay a fee, and explore the long neck tribe. They are welcoming and happy to pose for photos, without pressuring you to buy from their shops. While the village may feel touristy due to the number of shops, our experience was pleasant as there weren't many other tourists around.

Have dinner at the night market
Consider booking a stay at 'Sang Tong Huts' in Mae Hong Son for a pleasant stopover complete with a swimming pool and delicious breakfast options. In the evening, head to the night market for dinner, where you'll find a variety of dining choices and a lively ambiance.
