Hiking Table Mountain

With its breathtaking views and its flattened top, Table Mountain is one of South African most visited places. Hiking on Table Mountain is the best way to see the city and all of its surroundings. The easiest and fastest way of getting to the top is to take a cable car. The time we were there, the cable car was under construction for a few weeks. So no cable car for us. Not even on the way back down. But hiking one of the Table Mountain trails is a far more challenging and much more rewarding experience. There are 5 official routes (Platteklip Gorge, Skeleton Gorge, India Venster, Kasteelspoort, and Diagonal) for hiking up Table Mountain. The distance and time depend on the chosen trail. It takes between 1 hour and 1h30 min. to get to the top. We chose to hike the most popular one, which has also the most direct route to the top – Platteklip Gorge trail.

After climbing Table Mountain and enjoying the spectacular view from the top, make a stop at the colorful village, Bo Kaap.

Colorful Bo Kaap

A trip to Cape Town is incomplete without a visit to the little village, Bo Kaap, the rainbow heart of this city. Bo Kaap is also the oldest living neighborhood in Cape Town. Pay a visit at the oldest building in Bo-Kaap. It is situated in Wale Street and currently houses the Bo-Kaap Museum. Besides visiting the museum, just take your time to get lost amongst these wonderfully charming, colorful houses and cobblestoned streets!
