Kandy (1 night)
From Sigiriya I took the bus to Kandy. Taking the bus in Sri Lanka is really an experience you shouldn't miss. Kandy is a city, central in Sri Lanka, and a popular place to start your trip by train to Ella.
Temple of the Tooth
The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a Buddhist temple, centrally in Kandy. I visited it during the evening ceremony which was nice to witness.
One of the prettiest train rides in the world...
This is a must-do on your travel-list for Sri Lanka. Hop on the train from Kandy to Ella (or from Ella to Kandy) to enjoy a scenic ride which takes 7 hours in total. The views are amazing and the locals are super nice. Tip: book your tickets +/- 1 week in advance (if you can) with a reserved seat in 2nd class. I didn't do this so I went to the train station that comes right before Kandy (Peradeniya), hoping I would have a seat after Kandy, but I still had to stand up for 4 hours.
