Oman
Another day, another wadi!
Exploring Oman’s most popular wadi and driving back to Muscat with stops at picturesque viewpoints.

Hiking & swimming in Wadi Shab
Wadi Shab is a beautiful canyon with clear natural pools and a secret waterfall inside a cave at the end of the wadi. Getting to Wadi Shab is simple! The parking lot is conveniently located right off the main highway, underneath a bridge. Here, you will need to take a small boat to cross the creek. Once on the other side, you can begin the hike to the pools. The initially broad trail gradually narrows. At a certain section, you will need to walk through small shallow pools. This is where we switched from sneakers to water shoes. In hindsight, we could have done the entire hike with water shoes. After 45 minutes, you’ll arrive at the larger pool. Time for a swim! We put some of our stuff on a rock and valuable belongings in a dry bag and continued swimming to two additional pools. Shallow and deep sections alternate, making this a very amusing experience! At the far end of the third pool is a narrow slot in the rocks. This is the entrance to the cave with the waterfall.

Refreshing pause at Bimmah Sinkhole
During our trip, Bimmah Sinkhole and the land surrounding it were closed for renovation. This natural pool is located right off the main highway connecting Sur and Muscat so an easy stop on your road trip!

Yiti Round Point of View
As you approach the centre of Muscat, make a stop at Yiti Round Point of View. From here, you have a beautiful view of white-washed villages nestled in a valley.
Bandar al Khairan viewpoint
Explore the bays and beaches of Bandar al Khairan: either check out the viewpoint or walk down to the beach.
