The Big Beehive hike in Banff National Park is considered one of the most beautiful hikes in Canada. The trail is moderate, yet accessible, making it a popular choice for hikers. Read on to discover the best route to the Big Beehive. 🔹Duration: 5-7 hours 🔹Distance: 13km 🔹Elevation: 1,032m 🔹Type: out & back As you leave behind the bustling lakefront of Lake Louise, you’ll begin a gradual ascent with a series of long switchbacks through the forest to the first stop: Mirror Lake. Gaze upward toward the imposing Big Beehive, and you'll understand where the name finds its inspiration—it indeed resembles a colossal beehive. From Mirror Lake, the trail continues to the left, following the signs to the Little Beehive. Along the way, be captivated by the breathtaking panoramas and when you reach the top, a stunning view of Lake Louise awaits. A mere 1.2 km detour, this is an essential stop on your hiking day. To reach stop 3, return the way you came and continue straight, descending until you arrive at the charming teahouse on Lake Agnes. Here, you’ll be greeted by the sight of the pristine lake – a perfect spot to eat a packed lunch. Keep in mind that this stands as the busiest stop on the trail and long lines can form at the teahouse. Off to the fourth and final stop! Follow the trail next to Lake Agnes. At the opposite end, a new set of switchbacks beckons, guiding you to the ridge. Once there, follow the trail to the left to reach the viewpoint and a wooden lookout.
