Arrival and optional day hikes
On the first day, we met at the basecamp near Misurina at Hotel Miralago. The rangers welcomed us, gave us a briefing, and provided any rented gear. This gave us time to start our day hikes to already see some highlights of the Dolomites. We spent the night in a hut by the lake.

Cadini di Misurina Hike
We started with the Cadini di Misurina hike, taking the Col de Varda cable car to save time and energy. The cable car, open daily from 9:00 AM to 4:45 PM, cost 8 (one way) to 11 (return) euros pp. This hike covered 9 kilometers, with an elevation gain of 530 meters. It’s known for its viewpoint at the top. Since it was very foggy, we couldn’t see a thing. But the surroundings were a good start of our trip! • Distance: 9 km • Ascent: 530m • Descent: 530m

Hike to Lago Sorapis
After descending from Cadini di Misurina, we started the hike to Lago Sorapis. This 13-kilometer loop trail led us to a stunning blue lake surrounded by mountains. The hike starts at Passo Tre Croci, a mountain pass between Cortina d'Ampezzo and Misurina. If you follow trail number 215, you're good. The trail starts gently through the forest. After the forest, the trail gets rockier and steeper. Be careful, as some parts can be slippery. There are cables and ladders in some steep parts for safety. The trail was challenging, with a 710-meter elevation gain, but the views were worth it. We took our time to enjoy the scenery and had lunch along the way. It’s very touristy btw! Since we started this hike in the afternoon, lot’s of tourists passed us on their way back. • Distance: 13 km • Ascent: 710m • Descent: 710m

Lago di Sorapis
Lago di Sorapis is a favorite spot for hikers and photographers in the Dolomites. It's known for its bright turquoise water and surrounding mountains. After about 2 hours, you’ll reach the lake. This view is insane!

All the way down
The way down from the lake is challenging as well. It's pretty steep for a while, having to climb down the rocks. After rain it gets very slippery. But it was absolutely stunning.

First night at Hotel Miralago
After our first day of hiking we were ready for a beer and a good dinner! We got to meet the others of our group as well, and went for a good night sleep after. We shared a room with four people, and had our own bathroom. Parking at the hotel was free for the first night, but we needed to move to a public parking lot the next morning. By taking the cable car first, we ensured we had enough time to fully enjoy the beauty of Lago Sorapis without rushing. This choice allowed us to experience the best of both hikes, making for a fantastic first day in the Dolomites.
