It owes its uniqueness to a small island located in the middle of the lake. Also the crystal-clear water and the surrounding mountain landscapes give this lake an idyllic look. Discover this alpine hike to the Schrecksee, the highest mountain lake in Germany, scraped out by glaciers. The hike to this lake located at 1819 meters is straightforward, but not to be underestimated. It covers several altitude meters in alpine terrain which gives this hike an extra adventurous touch. Solid mountain boots are therefore recommended! Once you arrive at the top, you can take a break next to (or maybe in) the Schrecksee lake. Tip: If you like to have a panoramic view on the lake from above, walk several meters up a mountain path and enjoy the magnificent view. It’s worth the extra elevation gain!
