Day 2: must-visits
Day 2 was dedicated to some major attractions. We visited the former palace of the sultans, the Hagia Sophia, and the largest cistern in Istanbul.





Topkapi Palace
This 15th-century palace was once the home of the sultans. It is a gigantic domain with inner gardens and pavilions and is one of the oldest remaining palaces in the world. Be sure to visit the harem in the palace.




Hagia Sophia
A must-see when you are in Istanbul. Once, Hagia Sophia was the largest cathedral in the world, now it is an iconic mosque that you can visit the first floor of. The ground floor is only accessible to people who come to pray.



Blue Mosque
In Istanbul, you will find mosques everywhere. The Blue Mosque - officially known as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque - is located across the square where you can also find the Hagia Sophia. Perfect to combine!



Yerebatan Cistern
This underground water storage was used in the sixth century to supply the palace of the Byzantine emperor. Today, you can visit this place. With no less than 80,000 m³, it is the largest cistern in the city. An entrance ticket costs 1300 tl, which is approximately €33.
