Lion's Head, Cape Town, South Africa

Hike Lion's head at sunset

Climbing Lion's Head is one of the most popular things to do in South Africa. And this is why : Lion’s Head is the best place in Cape Town to come for the panoramic views of the city. You can pretty much see the entire Cape Town and its surroundings, such as Table Mountain, Twelve Apostles, Camps Bay, Clifton Beaches, City Bowl, V&A Waterfront, Sea Point, Robben Island, Chapman’s Peak Drive, Cape Peninsula, ... Even if you don’t climb all the way to the top, you still get amazing views along the trail. Depending on how fit you are, it can take between 1h30min. and 2h.30min. to hike up and down Lion’s Head. The route is clearly marked and will start at the Lion Head's parking lot. From here, the path runs uphill for quite a while, but it's not too difficult. The last kilometer will be the most challenging part with climbing up over the rocks, metal ladders, and chains. The best time to Hike Lion's Head is sunrise or sunset. So try to start your hike a few hours beforehand, to fully enjoy a beautiful sunset (or sunrise) at the top of Lion's head. On your way back down, you will see the moon and stars rise over the city of Cape Town. It's just the perfect way to end this beautiful roadtrip in South Africa.
