From the border post to the center
Hop on your bike for a delightful cycling trip through the mecca of strawberry cultivation. You start your route at B&B ’t Mjeels Pierke (Chaamseweg 71b, Meerle). First stop: Meersel-Dreef. The northernmost point of Belgium, marked on the map by the popular travel program of Tom Waes. After the obligatory selfie at the border post, recharge your batteries at one of the sun-drenched terraces in Meersel-Dreef. Following the idyllic banks of the Mark and countless strawberry fields, you roll towards the center of Hoogstraten. Follow these cycling junctions: center Meersel-Dreef – 14 – 13 – 21 – 28 – 53 (15.5 km).

City walk with a touch of history
The historic center of Hoogstraten has surprisingly much to offer. Start your walk at the photogenic beguinage, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. In houses 9-11, you will find the Municipal Museum of Hoogstraten (free admission). In the green hinterland, you can spot the Laermolen on the Mark, the Stipstappenpad, and the castle of Hoogstraten. Back in the center, you will walk past some impressive 16th-century facades and the St. Catherine's Church: one of the tallest brick buildings in Europe. Inside, you will also find a collection of artistic treasures.
Bike or walk to Peperstraat 2 (200 meters).
Old + new at Oud Hoogstraeten
End your first day in Hoogstraten with a delicious dinner at Oud Hoogstraeten. Choose a spot in the historic building with vintage decor or settle on the spacious, sunny terrace. On the menu: Flemish classics, burgers, pasta, salads, … Be sure to check the suggestion board.
