Most Dutch people - but also foreign tourists in general - have surely heard of Saalfelden Leogang. This popular winter sports destination in the west of Salzburgerland has all the ingredients needed for an unforgettable ski holiday. But there is more..... Much more.
When I crossed the German border in the early evening, it started to look like this: Here it was really winter. Via Kufstein, St. Johann in Tirol, and Kitzbühel, I drove out of Tyrol and into Salzburgerland. The thermometer on my dashboard indicated that it was -8º Celsius outside. There was at least a good 20 cm of snow in the ditches. And this was only in the valley. That promised a lot for the higher areas. Almost immediately after I entered my destination, the village of Leogang, my navigation indicated that I had to take the next exit. Ice crystals sparkled in the light of the Christmas-decorated trees along the road. I had arrived. The warm car was exchanged for the cold mountain air. It made me aware that the winter adventure had really begun.
