The hike around XôXô on Santo Antão is nothing short of stunning. From there, take the shorter loop trail by turning right between the village houses and descending the opposite side of the hill. You'll walk through terraced fields of sugar cane and banana groves, following irrigation canals back to the river bridge where locals cultivate yam in the fertile valley below. After your hike, a short drive brings you to Melicia's, a welcoming local restaurant where both locals and tourists gather for well-deserved meals. The atmosphere is relaxed and authentic, offering a perfect spot to refuel after your mountain adventure. The real treat for families lies just across the street from Melicia's: a natural plunge pool that doubles as a water reservoir. While these irrigation pools are found throughout Santo Antão, this particular spot has become a beloved swimming hole for local youth.
