Alcatraz
Alcatraz is an island in San Francisco Bay. From 1934 to 1963 it was used as a prison. Book a city cruise (be sure to book several months in advance!) and step back into the past. From the water you have a beautiful view of the SF skyline. Unfortunately, the golden gate bridge was covered in fog.
Financial District & Union Square
Visit the Apple store and Nike store (3 floors) or other luxurious stores around Union Square. Afterwards, walk past the various skyscrapers, the top floors of which are hidden in the mist.
Pier 39
We visited pier 39 in the evening (day 1) and during the day. It is a nice place to buy souvenirs and you can spot the "famous" sea lions. Also visit Fisherman's Wharf where you can taste delicious fresh fish.
