From Les Baumettes to Marseille
This third stage explores the southwestern part of the Parc National des Calanques, passing the famous Calanques de Marseille. Total length: 13 km Elevation gain: 700 moh Duration: 6 hours + 1 hour on public transport to get to the center of Marseille
Good morning Calanques
Time to leave for your last day hiking the GR51. From Les Baumettes we first climb the Plan de Miette, from where we enjoy a great panoramic view of the coast and the offshore Riou islands. On the GR 51 we go slowly downhill and past numerous calanques until we reach Port de Callelongue - a rather touristy place.
Climbing and hiking up to Madrague de Mont Rose
After hiking past a lot of calanques and pebbly beaches, we get rewarded with views over Les Goudes - a popular place with (apparently) some great places to eat and drink. We only see it from a distance and hike a bit uphill again to Pas Edgard Garrigue, the only short via ferrata passage of the route, although some other stages can be challenging as well. With a view of Marseille and the famous former prison island of Chateau d'If, we then head towards the first suburbs of Marseille
