One of the most beautiful hikes in the Bagà region, an hour's drive from Barcelona, is the hike to Roca Sança. This 11-kilometer trek with about 750 meters of descent and ascent offers stunning views of the valley and is suitable for beginners.
Start at the parking lot of Refugi De Rebost and descend along the charming building. The path is wide and well-maintained. You go all the way down, which is a bit counterintuitive at first (most hikes start with an ascent). After about 4 kilometers, you cross the river and follow the markings of El Claper. There is actually only one way up. After a short but steep climb, you reach Roca-Sança.
Another alternative as an endpoint is La Foradada or "the Bauma de l'Arcada," which is a cove in the mountain. Here you have a beautiful view of the valley. The Bauma is about 2.7 kilometers from Roca-Sança and is not marked with signs. Download an app like OrganicMaps to find your way.
This route has the same way back as it does going, so take the same way back to the parking lot, descend, and then climb the last bit to reach the starting point.
This experience is part of the Grand Tour of Catalonia, part 4.
