For me El Castell de Guadelest is a mountain gem 100% worth your time! If you're staying in Denia/Javea or just the Alicante region and looking for a memorable day trip, Guadalest should definitely be on your list. This charming medieval village perched on a mountaintop offers a refreshing change from coastal vibes and delivers some seriously impressive views. The drive is about an hour, and your driving through beautiful mountain landscapes, where you can stop for small coffee places or little markets next to the road. When you you arrive in Guadelest village you enter through a tunnel carved into the mountain to discover a small whitewashed village built on a massive rock pinnacle. The views here are very pretty. From the castle ruins, you can see the turquoise reservoir below and mountains stretching into the distance. It's definitely one of those places that looks even better in person than in photos. While Guadalest does attract visitors, it maintains an authentic charm. Take some time to explore the narrow streets, stop for a drink at one of the terrace cafés with panoramic views. My tip, go early and do the full hike around the reservoir, it is beautiful! You can even rent some kayak to go on the reservoir. 100% worth the drive from the coast.
