A stay at the family friendly 'Hôtel plein air' Le Phare in Île de Ré

Accommodation

€ 50 - 100

When we visited Île de Ré, we stayed in camping le Phare, which was a fantastic place to stay. They call themselves a 'Hôtel plein ar' and it really does it justice. The facilities are really high standard, there is a hip bar and good restaurant and our 'cabane' was really secluded, with a nice lounge area outside and everything we needed as a family of four. We enjoyed our apéritif in bar 'les Demoiselles' and the kids loved to bike from one play area to another. It's the ultimate feeling of freedom when you're 8 or 11 years old :-). At night, there was always something fun to do, ranging from a carnival, a local market, a performance or a dance evening. But it wasn't in an intrusive way, so if you just wanted to enjoy the calm of the isle, it was definitely possible. Right next to the camping there were two beaches: Plage de la Redoute and Place de la Loge. The second one was our favourite to go for a swim or for an evening picknick. Plage de la Redoute was a little bit rocky, but ideal for a crab search ;-). There was no store at the camping, but you could buy bread every morning at the restaurant and there is a supermarket just 800m from the campsite. In the morning, I liked to bike into the village (just 5 min by bike) and buy our bread and some fresh fruit at the local market in Les-Portes-en-Ré, which is there every day in summer.
