Spain
Day 1
A visit to the Royal Palace, a view on the city from above and tasting superb cocktails.

Palacio Real: world's largest royal palace
Start your day with a visit to the impressive Royal Palace of Madrid. It has a surface of 135.000m², making it the world's largest royal palace. All rooms are richly decorated. A must-visit when in Madrid. Don't forget to check out the gardens!

Mercado de San Miguel
This indoor market has become popular with tourists and it's easy to see why: authentic food and nice architecture. Treat yourself to tasty tapas, snacks and drinks at one of the stalls. Is it too busy during lunchtime? Come back a few hours before closing time. That's when the locals go.

Plaza Mayor
The archways and red facades make this one of the most beautiful squares in the city. It's tempting to have a drink on one of the terraces, however, there are far so many options in the city without overpriced drinks & food.

Amazing view of Gran Via
Head to El Corte Inglés Callao and go up to the 9th floor of this department store. The whole floor is full of food stalls and there's an outdoor terrace if you'd like to have a bite. The best part of this terrace is the view of the city and Gran Via.

Sipping cocktails
Head to Momus for the best cocktails you'll ever taste. We always like to try out cocktail bars when travelling and this is one of the best we've ever been to so far. No overpowering flavours, not too sweet or sour, original, tasty and knowledgeable staff. This a cocktail-only bar, but they do have non-alcoholic options and you get a glass of water with your order.

A modern version of traditional cuisine
In the heart of Madrid you'll find Angelita, which serves excellent dishes. The menu changes on a daily basis since they use seasonal products. Couldn't make a reservation or it's fully booked? Ask if you can have a seat in their downstairs cocktail bar. They usually have a free table and you can order from a smaller menu.
