Monumental Rome & The Vatican
Today we tick off some historical monuments in Rome after which we cross the river to Vatican City to visit the museums and the Sistine Chapel.

Morning stroll
In Rome each corner has an incredible building to spot. From our hotel we crossed some impressive streets.

Vittorio Emmanuele II Monument
This impressive monument in the middle of Rome was created for one of the first kings of unified Italy in the 18th century. You can climb the stairs for an impressive view over Rome, the Roman Forum and the Colosseum.

The final steps of Caesar
In the city center, not far from the Pantheon you’ll find the Area Sacra di Largo Argentina. This ancient area shows the ruins of the palace and it stairs where Julius Caesar was murdered.

The Pantheon: a 2.000 year old building
Right in the middle of Rome you’ll find the famous Pantheon. This 2.000 year old building survived all these years because of its protective status as a Roman temple and Christian church. The open dome is what makes this construction so unique.

Tiramisu to go
Most people go for a tiramisu to Two Sizes with a ridiculous queue as a result. We went for Mr. 100 Tiramisu. With literally 100 types of tiramisu to choose from, we went for the white chocolate with pistachios.

Via del Governo Vecchio
This charming street has it all. From impressive colored buildings to delicious restaurants and interesting shops. The one that caught our eye was Harvey Shoes: an artist who handpainted Converse All-stars and jeans jackets.

Rooftop bar near the Vatican
Before we entered the Vatican (yes, another country we can check on our list!), we stopped at Terrazza Les étoiles. This rooftop bar has one of the best views over this part of Rome.

Vatican museums & Sistine Chapel
In the Renaissance the best Italian artists where invited to the Vatican to decorate the Vatican. We went to visit the museums to see a few of these historical masterpieces.

Pizza & pasta in Trastevere
This vibrant neighborhood is perfect to go for diner after an afternoon in Vatican. You can find some great fine dining here as well, but make sure to make a reservation. We went for a simple but delicious pizza and pasta.
