Our 2-week trip through Rwanda and Uganda was the perfect mix of nature, adventure, and culture. We kicked off our trip in Kigali, a calm and impressively clean capital city, full of history, culture, and vibrant art. From there, we made our way to the lush Nyungwe Forest, where we spent three days hiking through dense greenery, listening to birdsong, spotting monkeys, and even cooling off in a waterfall. While in the forest, we also set out on a trek to see chimpanzees in their natural habitat. Next, we tackled a part of the Congo Nile Trail by bike — an unforgettable ride along Lake Kivu through green hills, small villages, and tea plantations. After the ride, we slowed down with some glamping by Lake Burera, surrounded by volcanoes and peaceful water. The absolute highlight? A gorilla trek in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda. Coming face-to-face with a gorilla family in their natural habitat was something we’ll never forget. If you’re into exploring off-the-beaten-path places with stunning landscapes and meaningful experiences, this part of Africa really has something special.
