Sri Lanka
Explore Ella's best waterfalls
On this second day you'll discover hidden waterfalls, soak in breathtaking views, and explore the flavors of traditional Sri Lankan cuisine. Time to explore Ella together, part two!
Start your day at Ravana Falls
Begin your day with a visit to the majestic Ravana Falls, a true gem of Ella. Just a 10-minute drive from the main street, this beautiful waterfall promises a thrilling experience. You can walk on a makeshift path in order to get a better view, which is really cool but a little stressy. You can discover multiple zones of the waterfall, all behind safe guardrails. However, we suggest you still be cautious as you explore the area, the rocks can be slippery and the currents strong - so no swimming! There’s plenty of things to explore inside the guardrails, no need to climb rocks in order to get a better picture ;-)
Only 8 minutes until you reach your next destination.
Next up: Secret Waterfall
Only a short journey down the road from Ravana Falls, you will discover a hidden oasis known as the Secret Waterfall. Admittedly, the waterfall is not-so-secret anymore, but it’s still a really cool place to visit! Park your vehicle near the stalls selling fresh fruit and begin your brief hike through the jungle. Keep an eye out for playful monkeys along the way! As you reach the waterfall, take a dip in the natural pools and soak in the peaceful atmosphere. We loved the fact that this place was so secluded, and we think you will too! Once you’re done exploring the area, make sure to support the local vendors upstairs by purchasing some fresh fruit from them.
Hop on your scooter and get ready for a 40-minute ride to your next activity!
Time to head back to Ella, a one hour drive will take you to your dinner spot of the day ;-)
Dinner at Matey Hut
End your day with a culinary adventure at Matey Hut, a must-visit dining spot in Ella. At Matey Hut, you’ll get offered authentic Sri Lankan flavors at very affordable prices. We ordered the chicken kottu (super delicious) and pumpkin curry (absolutely yummy). The kottu was among the best we’ve eaten during our 3 weeks in Sri Lanka, but the star of the show was definitely the pumpkin curry! It had so much flavor, and had just the right amount of spice to it. It was so good that we kept looking for pumpkin curry on the menus of other restaurants!
